Breakdown

This video was an especially fun project to bring to life. Following a strong stretch of wins from the JMU men’s basketball team, we wanted to highlight one of our standout players, Cliff Davis. The concept was inspired by a moment captured by one of our videographers during a postgame radio show, where our coach described Davis as a “southern boy.” I used that line as the foundation for the creative direction.

Leaning into that theme, I took a more playful and stylized approach to the edit. I paired a country-inspired track with game footage, timing clips of Davis sinking three pointers to align with the coach’s commentary. This added a layer of personality and rhythm to the piece, allowing the narrative and visuals to work together in a more dynamic way.

Throughout the edit, my goal was to balance humor and hype, creating something that felt both entertaining and celebratory of Davis’s performance. This project gave me the opportunity to experiment creatively with storytelling and tone, and it ultimately received very positive feedback. It remains one of my favorite pieces I’ve worked on.
